What an action-packed start to Term 1 we have had thus far! Keep concentrating; blink and you might miss something!
Bridge Builder Mediators
The Year 6 students started the term choosing their preferences for leadership roles. This resulted in 30 pupils taking a two-day Bridge Builder Mediation course with Jocelyne Chirnside from Empowering Lifeskills. Twenty Bridge Builder mediators were selected to begin to assist P-2 students manage conflict from next week. We also have a team of ten trained students who will be available to assist in the Upper Primary.
Diakonos Team Leaders have been allocated and ideas have already started to flow freely as to what can be achieved this year. We are looking forward to seeing some great work happening in the Environment Team, the Social Justice Team, and Girls and Boys Matter teams as the year six student the Primary in service activities and learning. Watch this space.
In preparation for the Year 6 Leadership Roles, all Year 6 students took part in the Kokoda Challenge las Monday. They were accompanied by the Year 12 Primary Mentors as they took the annual trip to Mt Coot-tha. This allowed the students to challenge themselves and grow together as a cohort. They battled the sun, the rain and steep inclines whilst carrying each other (and their mentors) on makeshift stretchers all the way to the finish. The teamwork shown and CHAC spirit was exceptional. The BBQ burgers cooked by the pupils also hit the spot. A great day.
It was the first opportunity for the new House Leaders to show their stuff as they took their first House meetings this week followed by the annual swimming carnival held on Thursday. It was a fantastic success with new songs being belted out as the Houses cheered on their teams. Congratulations go to Stradbroke House who were the overall winners on the day and also to Russell House who walked away with the CHAC Spirit award.
Next week we look forward to what will be the first 'normal' week of the term when students can launch whole heartedly into their new Maths program, the unit of work about Federation and a great Natural Disasters projects to name but a few.
