Last week, the Brisbane Powerhouse hosted the Australian Virtual Reality Film Festival for 2018. This gave the Arts department the opportunity to take Year 10 media students there, to experience a showcase of some of the world’s best virtual reality short films, documentaries and creative works.
Armed with virtual reality goggles, students had a chance to view and interact with work from next-generation filmmakers. An exciting night was had by the students as they stepped into a back alley of graffiti in Melbourne, had dinner with female fighters in Afghanistan, watched a love story in a fantasy world, and explored the world of Manus Island. Lots of discussion followed the evening, as students gained a better understanding this ground-breaking form.
