Secondary Debating Update

CHAC is enjoying a successful season in the QDU Secondary Competition. The following Year 8 teams qualified for the finals knockout rounds:

Congratulations to Ms Vicky Barnett and her Year 8 team: Liley Smith, Bethany Walsh, Hannah Robinson and Alec Wills.
Congratulations to Mr John Featherstone and his Year 8 team: Megan Richards, Oliver Cameron, Aidan Branch and Daniel O’Gorman.
Congratulations to Ms Eve Hassall and both her Year 10 teams which made it to the finals knockout round! Team 10.1: Will Ewart, Kasey Gill, Chris O’Brien and Emma Cooney. Team 10.2: Samantha Milne, Ella Greenaway, Chrisel Myburgh and Anna Coldham-Fussell.

Team 10.2 will continue onto Round 2 of the finals knockout draw and we wish them all the best as they take on St Patrick’s.

I would also like to extend special congratulations to my Year 12 team: Sophie Corcoran, Sierra Mossman, Joe Rooth and Jacques Dennison. Three members of this team generously agreed to participate in the Year 12 competition despite being in Year 11. The team won two out of four rounds, achieving both wins during the short prep rounds. They won their final round with a clear margin. Well done team, from your very proud coach!

The Junior Round Robin is well underway and Ms Georgina Baker’s Year 7 team has had a successful start, claiming victory in the first round. The team comprises Anneliese Roduner, Bailey Climo, Luke Sivyer and Lucy Farrell.

I wish all our debaters the best of luck in the rounds to come – may you be given the better side of every topic, may your rebuttal be sharp and plentiful, and may you remember to thank your coaches in your vote of thanks.

Ms Lauren Leslie
Debating Coordinator
