The Primary Inter-House Athletics Carnival was held on Thursday and Friday last week. This was a wonderful event that not only allowed students to take part in the trials for JTAS athletic events but also allowed students to show other skills in some fun events for House points. These events create a real community feel amongst the grounds and there were certainly many happy faces throughout the two days.
Years 3 to 6 students started the carnival in terrific style on Thursday, competing in the 200m track event, discus, high jump and long jump events. These events are used to decide points across the House competitions and the important age championships, and also contribute to the trials for the JTAS team. Some novelty events were also added this year, with the Vortex Throw and shuttle relays welcomed addition to the busy timetable.
Day two of the carnival was a spectacle with all students from Prep to Year 6 involved in the events.
The Prep to Year 2 students started their carnival day with some fun novelty events before taking part in the 60-80m sprints in front of the entire Primary school. This was a celebration of just how far these students have come and the skills they have picked up during their PE lessons.
The upper Primary were involved in ball games and enjoyed time with other classmates before taking part in the shot put and 100m sprints events. These were great opportunities for students to participate for their House and to display their skills for possible selection in the JTAS Athletics team.
The day finished with 800m races, which were participated by a great number of students. This truly shows the nature and positive attitude of all students, many of whom took part in this event for the first time.
I wish to congratulate all students for a wonderful carnival and for always participating to their fullest.
I thank all staff who took part and helped with various roles throughout the carnival. In particular, Mrs Kathy Winks, who was an integral part of the convening of this carnival.
