As part of their photography studies, Year 11 Visual Art in Practice (VAiP) students explored the suburban architecture of surrounding streets and the history and characters who lived in this area through a visit to Balmoral Cemetery. Despite the heat, the students took the time to observe the small details and different styles of houses that surround the school. Our cemetery visit was supported by the Friends of Balmoral Cemetery, who explained the rich symbolism, characters and history of a place that forms an important aspect of Brisbane history.
These excursions have assisted students to narrow their focus and communicate a personal viewpoint about the concept of identity and local communities/neighbourhoods.
Thanks to Mr Leegwater for providing his technical expertise and to the students for dedicating themselves to the task so diligently.
