Goodbye to Seiryo students!

Goodbye to Seiryo students!

Author: Peta Nakamura
Author Role: Coordinator of Japanese

Last week, CHAC played host to 24 visiting students from our sister school in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, Seiryo College. English language is a compulsory subject in Japan, and many students vie for a place on the popular CHAC short-term exchange program. Students are selected based on their English test scores. Many students discover that although they may be good at English on paper, having to listen and speak to native speakers is a different matter altogether.

I’d like to express my gratitude to the wonderful CHAC families who opened their hearts and homes to host an exchange student for ten days. Your kindness, patience and delicious meals were much appreciated by the Seiryo students. Thanks also to the CHAC teachers for being so accommodating in allowing the Seiryo students into their classes.

There were a few tears shed at the bus stop on the morning of the farewell— a sign of the great new friendships formed.

Japan Tour 2020

Will your child be in Year 10, 11 or 12 in 2020?  Do they plan to continue their Japanese study?  Planning is underway for the 2020 CHAC Japan Tour, which will follow closely on the heels of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

There will be an information night early in Term 2 to start preparations for the next Japan Tour. Keep an eye out for an email with further details.
