CHACyard Blitz 2018
This year, the Enterprise Steering Committee has been planning the College’s inaugural CHACyard Blitz and on Saturday 20 October it became a reality, supporting the Anglican Church Southern Queensland's 2018 theme of Generations Together.
CHACyard Blitz is a social enterprise project designed to bring people closer together through a shared task. An initiative led by Secondary Teacher, Mr Rob Hawkin, the Blitz is particularly focussed on building connections between our students, their families and the elderly in our community. Parents were asked to nominate people they knew would benefit from basic practical assistance including general yard work, clean-up and rubbish removal.
Over thirty volunteers, suitably prepared for their tasks, were organised into small teams and assisted six residents. These people really appreciated our practical efforts but, more so, were encouraged and delighted by the compassion directed towards them. Not only was it wonderful to see front and backyards transformed but also to hear conversations and connections being made across the generations. These are indeed transformative experiences for our students; an opportunity to give the concept of servant leadership hands and feet as this letter from a resident testifies.
Sincere thanks for organising the Team from the school to call in on Saturday to undertake the task of cleaning my outside windows.
They were a beautiful group of people and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting them. The parents/teachers were so supportive and interesting and the students a credit to both their parents and the school. The work was carried out efficiently and with cheerful enthusiasm. It really gives you faith in the young generation coming through...
..Once again, very many thanks. It truly was a great help.
With blessings Christine
The intention is to develop the initiative so that it becomes a regular feature of the school calendar. If you know of anyone who may benefit in future from such a venture, please email details to the College Admin with the subject ‘CHACyard Blitz’.
