Arts Faculty news for 2020

Author: Dr Malcolm Cole
Author Role: Faculty Head - The Arts

Welcome from the new Head of Faculty- Dr Malcolm Cole

A warm welcome to all new and returning students to CHAC. Staff in the Arts Faculty are geared up for another great year of developing students' knowledge and skills in Drama, Music and Visual Arts through targeted, challenging and meaningful learning opportunities.

I am very excited to be taking on the role of Head of Faculty - The Arts, and acknowledge the wonderful work of Ms Mungavin in leading the Faculty over the past years. The strength, depth and quality of Arts work at CHAC is a testament to her leadership and the qualities that each Arts teacher brings to their classrooms. Ms Mungavin will be teaching Drama classes throughout the secondary school. We also welcome Ms Renee Johnson into the Visual Arts teaching team. Ms Johnson has extensive experience across a wide range of Visual Arts media and will bring her unique and widely informed approach to her classes.

I come to CHAC after one year with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority as Senior Education Officer for the Arts. Previous to that, I was Director of Arts at St Augustine's Marist College in Cairns. Before my move to Cairns, I was Director of Music at Churchie so I am delighted to be reconnecting with CHAC in my new role this year. I wish to thank everyone for being so welcoming at the beginning of the year. Arts staff are passionate about Arts education and we commit to providing a challenging, caring and creative environment for students to develop their interests, passions and skills.

Arts Tour

Thank you to Ms Mungavin for all her preparation for the upcoming Arts tour. Please direct all enquiries to Malcolm Cole as I will be taking over the responsibility for the tour. I anticipate that we will have a student meeting soon for information and team building.

Arts Ambassadors

Congratulations to the Arts Ambassadors for 2020 – Hermione Knowles-Green and Maxi Mossman. These students will be working closely with Arts staff for the benefit of students and ongoing and new initiatives in arts programs. Best wishes to them for a wonderful year.
