Hello all! The Arts Ambassadors would like to update you on a few things happening in the Arts Faculty.
The CHAC Musical We Will Rock You is starting to take shape, with the talented chorus, actors, musicians, costume makers and dancers bringing together the performance with the help of our dedicated teachers. Tickets will be released early in Term 2 and will sell out, so don’t miss out—stay tuned for information on how to book.
Earlier this term, eight of the Visual Art classes went on excursions to QAGOMA for the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art to be inspired for their assessment. The exhibition was stimulating and contemporary, and really helped the students consider more ideas in advancing their work.
As well as this, the Year 11 and 12 Drama classes went to see Death of a Salesman at QPAC, for its 70th Anniversary production. While very traditional in style, it was very interesting and insightful! Additionally, the Year 10 Theatre Sports evening was held on Tuesday 12 March, which was a night of improvisation and team-building. Everyone competed in activities such as I Love You Scene, Statues and Space Jump. It is always wonderful to see a whole class of students extend their confidence and critical thinking by improvising on the spot in front of an adoring audience.
Students studying the collaborative Art and Science subject Flight also had the opportunity to visit Aviation Australia to enrich their study of flight and aeronautics.
Congratulations must go to Art students Sophie Baird, Jordan Routledge and Albert De Luca who are all semi-finalists in the 2019 Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize Students K to 12, which is an outstanding achievement out of the hundreds of entries submitted all across Australia! We will have to wait until May to find out about the winners - good luck Sophie, Jordan and Albert!
Finally, just another friendly reminder that the College Composition Competition is still underway, and submissions are due on 2 April. We look forward to hearing your pieces!
