Last term, my Fantasy Art class travelled to GOMA where we saw Patricia Piccinini’s Curious Affection exhibition, to help inspire us for our next unit.
The installation featured hundreds of multi-sensory sculptures, paintings, videos and audio capturing Patricia’s ambition to showcase the strange and impossible. Her work was quite confronting as she created obscure and bizarre beings which looked completely realistic and with the added sound effects and lighting, made us feel like we were almost walking amongst the creatures.
Although some works were abnormal and slightly grotesque, the experience was very engaging and enjoyable, sparking ideas for our next assessment piece. It was an incredible exhibition, which benefitted us greatly, and which we won’t forget.
